The "Palazzo Montecitorio" was begun in 1653 by Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598-1680) and completed, almost half a century later, by Carlo Fontana (1638-1714). In 1871 it became the seat of the Camera dei Deputati (Chamber of Deputies), one of the two houses of the Italian Parliament. The palazzo was enlarged by Ernesto Basile between 1904 and 1926, when it was given a grand new facade on Piazza del Parlamento. Piazza del Parlamento facade has a largestaircase and two allegorical marble statues by Leonardo Bistolfi (1859-1933) and Domenico Trentacoste (1859-1933).

Domenico Trentacoste (1859-1933) was an Italian sculptor. Trentacoste worked in both marble and bronze and was commonly exhibited at the annual Salon of Paris.
