"Eve avant le péché" (Eve Before the Sin) is a sculpture created by French artist Eugène Delaplanche. The sculpture depicts the Biblical figure of Eve before she ate the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge. Delaplanche was a prominent sculptor in France during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, known for his work in the Romantic style. Marble statue carved from plaster exhibited at the Salon of French Artists of 1890.

Artist

Eugène Delaplanche (1836-1891) was a French sculptor. He was a pupil of Duret, gained the Prix de Rome in 1864 (spending 1864–67 at the Villa Medici in Rome), and the medal of honor in 1878. His "Messenger of Love" (1874), "Aurora" (1878), and the "Virgin of the Lillies" (1884), are in the Luxembourg.
