"L'Homme et sa Misère" depicts a worried man holding away a serpent or snake with another that is on his thigh, while there are also two children in this statue group that are clinging on to his legs, as though they are scared.

Artist

Jean-Baptiste Hugues (1849-1930) was a French sculptor. He won the Grand Prix de Rome for sculpture in 1875. He was resident at the Villa Medicis from 1876 to 1879.
